Acupuncture for Panic Disorder Reduce Anxiety Symptoms with Acupuncture

What Is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a healing technique that originated thousands of years ago from traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). This practice is based on the concept that medical conditions and mental health disorders are caused by an imbalance in energy. TCM theorizes that the body contains vital life energy called chi. When the body and mind are functioning properly, chi should flow through the body’s energy channels. These channels are called meridians and are located at certain points throughout the body. According to this tradition, sometimes chi becomes congested in different meridian pathways, leading to disease or disorders.

The goal of acupuncture is to restore the health and balance of these channels. During acupuncture treatment sessions, small needles are placed along specific areas of the body. Known as acupuncture points, these areas are thought to be where blockage of energy may be occurring. The needles come in a variety of thickness and length and are used to stimulate and open up blocked channels of energy.

ACUPUNCTURE TREATMENT FOR NECK PAIN

Posted by shizenos on August 25, 2019 at 7:05 AM Comments comments (0)

Neck pain and it’s associated problems of back and shoulder pain, headaches or dizziness is a very common condition seen in the clinic. Whether caused by stress, poor posture, injury, arthritis, general wear and tear or some unknown cause, this can be a distressing complaint causing both pain and restriction of movement.

Diagnosis is made by the location and nature of the pain, assessing the aggravating and relieving factors and trying to get to the underlying cause.

Acupuncture can be very useful when manipulation of the neck is undesirable and can provide safe, effective and gentle treatment of the neck, often reducing pain and increasingly mobility in just a few sessions.

Between our clinics, we can offer a comprehensive service for neck pain. With acupuncture, chiropractic and physiotherapy in all clinics we aim to provide the best all round care. If necessary, we can carry our X-rays at our Harley St location and we have good working relationships with some of the best consultants in the country.

Neck pain is predominantly treated with acupuncture, although herbal medicine may be used in certain situations. This may be combined with the use of heat lamps, Chinese massage or electro-acupuncture to achieve the best results.

ACUPUNCTURE TREATMENT FOR ADDICTION

Posted by shizenos on August 25, 2019 at 7:05 AM Comments comments (0)

Acupuncture can effectively help with withdrawal symptoms, but the patient has to want to give up smoking, drugs or alcohol.

Treatment is based on a combination of ear acupuncture points that are used extensively in rehabilitation centers for drug addiction. Nicotine is a drug and the principle of alleviating withdrawal symptoms is the same, regardless of the substance that is causing the addiction (alcohol, heroin, cocaine or nicotine). The combination of points is called the ‘NADA’ protocol and is chosen because it influences the sympathetic nervous system, calms the mind and helps the body detoxify. Body acupuncture points may also be used depending on the underlying patterns observed during the initial consultation.

If particular problems or withdrawal symptoms arise during treatment then these will be addressed, for example, excessive hunger, mood swings, irritability or difficulties sleeping. Therefore, even though a particular protocol is used, treatment will always be individualized to provide maximum benefit.

Treatment is normally twice weekly to begin with and then once a week. It is best to refrain from smoking, drinking or drug use for at least five hours before your first appointment. We have successfully helped people to give up smoking, recreational drugs, prescription medications and alcohol.

Acupuncture is effective for relieving period pain

Posted by shizenos on August 25, 2019 at 4:55 AM Comments comments (0)

Period pain, or dysmenorrhea, is a condition affecting up to 95 percent of menstruating women, according to a report published in the journal Human Reproduction Update.

Dysmenorrhea is classified into two types: primary, wherein no known health conditions can account for the painful cramps, and secondary, during which the pain occurs as a result of a diagnosed disorder, such as endometriosis or uterine fibroids.

A new study led by Australian researchers tests the effectiveness of acupuncture treatments in relieving period pain.

Acupuncture for Sciatica and Lower back Pain

Acupuncture and herbs relieve sciatica, a condition characterized by lower back pain radiating through the hips, buttocks, and legs. Researchers from the Rizhao Hospital of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and the Shanghai University of TCM investigated the efficacy of acupuncture for the relief of sciatic pain. Sciatics induces lower back and hip pain. Both acupuncture and acupuncture plus herbal medicine were effective and produced significant positive patient outcomes. In addition, the researchers document that acupuncture and herbs stimulate important biochemical changes causing pain reduction.

Acupuncture is an effective treatment modality for the alleviation of frozen shoulder. Also termed adhesive capsulitis, frozen shoulder is characterized by shoulder pain and range of motion loss in the rotator cuff region. Arm movements become difficult and frozen shoulder often interferes with a peaceful night’s sleep. In a controlled experiment conducted at the Guangdong 999 Brain Hospital, researchers determined that acupuncture alleviates pain and restores range of motion to the shoulder for patients with frozen shoulder.

Acupuncture for Headache and Migraine

Acupuncture seeks to restore the flow of positive energy throughout your body.

It also claims to remove negative energy that is causing you pain. From a modern medical perspective, acupuncture stimulates various systems of your body. This may trigger a healing response.

Acupuncture divides your body into a series of zones and pressure points. Acupuncture needles are inserted into different pressure points, depending on your symptoms. These needle points are usually near nerves in your body. The needle stimulates the nerves to release hormones, such as endorphins, that trigger a response from your body. This immune and circulation system stimulation is what proponents of acupuncture claim relieves migraines and tension headaches.

Acupuncture for Depression

Posted by shizenos on August 25, 2019 at 4:40 AM Comments comments (0)

Traditional Chinese medicine treats depression as a disorder that stems from imbalances of energy. This technique aims to restore the balance using the acupoints located on each individual’s body. When using acupuncture to treat depression, therapists diagnose each client based on their unique acupoints, and, in combination with other forms of therapy, create an individualized treatment plan. The changing nature of acupoints makes individualized treatment an essential part of using acupuncture to treat depression. As of now, practitioners rely on currently available data to determine individual acupoints in order to create plans that restore energy balance and bring harmony into the minds of those whose lives have been swallowed by depression.

Research on the effects of acupuncture on depression is still in its infancy, but the results thus far are promising. A recent study found that using the mental and emotional connections to individual acupuncture points based on the unique symptoms of each client can effectively treat depression in most cases. A review of studies that examined the effects of acupuncture on pregnant women suggests that it is an effective means of treating major depressive disorder in individuals within this population.

In terms of the brain activity that correlates with acupuncture, research is also limited, but one study found that it increases activity in the insula, a region of the brain located deep within the cerebral cortex that is involved in regulating the body’s homeostasis and has been linked to perception, self-awareness, and interpersonal experience. Interestingly, another study found a connection between changes in insula activity and MDD, highlighting the possibility that acupuncture could treat this disorder through its action on this brain region.

Acupuncture for Stress

Posted by shizenos on August 25, 2019 at 4:35 AM Comments comments (0)

Acupuncture is proven to reduce stress and even reverse the effects of stress. Research shows that acupuncture stimulates the release of oxytocin, a hormone that signals and regulates the parasympathetic nervous system. Acupuncture also addresses the effects of stress, like high blood pressure, elevated blood glucose levels, and insomnia.

Acupuncture immediately slingshot you out of fight-or-flight mode and into the parasympathetic rest-and-relax mode. It sends a signal to your brain that you are safe and it can relax. This in turn allows your body to heal from stress, pain, and inflammation.

Acupuncture is used both as a preventative and curative medicine and is just one modality of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). This means that when you work with a Registered Acupuncturist they may also incorporate cupping, guasha, moxibustion and offer lifestyle and nutritional counselling.

A good acupuncturist will treat you, not your symptoms. So not only will your stress improve, but all aspects of your life such as sleep, digestion, pain, and energy.

Regardless of your lifestyle or career, finding the appropriate stress treatment and management strategy is critical to maintaining a healthy you and a higher quality of life. Acupuncture is a great tool to combat the stress in your life!
